The power of accountability

Home | A Miracle Every Day | Miracles | The power of accountability

Recently I read the following in a  report: ‘Why is it so hard to lose weight?! What research found is simple but powerful. Accountability is the missing link in nearly every health and fitness plan.”
When you think about it, this is easy to understand. Eating is in our nature. We need discipline to not just eat, but to eat purposefully. And someone else walking with us helps  us stay the course and keep our promises.

Power through sharing

Addicted people have known about the power of accountability for much longer. Alcoholics Anonymous is the most well known example. They share their stories with each other daily. Participants share that they can only stay on track when they have others who know what they are going through. Others who support and encourage them, daily.

Two are better than one

As Christians we also deal with our issues. It is also in our nature to sin. “We do what we don’t want to do” says Paul. And Ecclesiastes 4:9 says: “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour”.

We need each other to stay on track. In fact, being accountable to each other is key. This is what we try to do within Jesus.net by providing e-coaches in the WhyJesus course. These e-coaches are vital. They share openly with the seeker about what God is doing in their lives. Seekers can relate to this. By sharing we show that none of us is above the other. We are running this race together. Side by side.

Accountability partners

It is the same for us as partners of Jesus.net. We need each other to grow. We can support, encourage and challenge each other. We can also ask each other questions if we see that  one of us or our organizations are about to make a wrong move.

Let’s not pretend that we can do it all alone.  After all: two are better than one.

Take the first step

If you don’t have an accountability partner yet, I call on you to take the first step in applying this powerful principle in your life. Find someone and invite  this person to be a part of your journey. Commit to support one another and help each other stay on track. You too can experience the power of accountability. Today.
