I think I know who you are, but I can’t remember… Have you been in a similar situation? In this story we meet a woman who thinks Jesus is a strange man. Yet she recognizes him as someone very important.
I think I know who you are, but I can’t remember… Have you been in a similar situation? You meet someone, and you know that you’ve met this person before. Someone in another context, at another occasion. It happened to me years ago. We were on holidays and we met a person during a hike in the mountains. It took a while, some careful questions (because you can be wrong) and then we found out: we used to work together!
Something like that happened to the woman in this story. She meets Jesus, the Messiah, but she does not recognize him. He is a strange man. Different from all other men she knew. She had some experience with men. She had been married five times and lived with the sixth man. And she knew that a Jewish man would not talk to her. She was a Samaritan and at that time Jews and Samaritans did not like each other and avoided one another.
But Jesus reveals more and more about himself. And then, at the end of this story she knows who he really is.
The reason she finds out is that she listens and is open her mind and her heart. She is curious. Maybe you want to know who Jesus is. Be curious and keep asking questions and keep searching. Jesus will show you who he is.
