Do What You Promise

Sounds reasonable this statement “Do what you promise”, doesn’t it? When someone promises me to do something, I expect him to do it, or tell me in time if he can’t make it. When the people in Cyprus have the guarantee that their small bank savings are safe, they have to be able to trust this. See what happens when this promise has been broken.

Breaking a Promise is Easily Done.

But I have come to realize this is easier said than done. Often times, I make a promise too quickly, which I already know I am not sure I am going to be able to carry through. For example, I promised my son to correct his Math lessons yesterday, but I didn’t plan it correctly and he had to remind me. And also the other way around: I am disappointed in people who don’t meet expectations and break a promise.

Speed of Trust

Within Jesus.net we want to do what we promise. We cannot always meet expectations, but we aim to do what we say. This is one of the practical outcomes of the value: wholeheartedness. It starts with the seeking people. They have to rely on us, that we will take care of them correctly. When we promise anonymity, for example, we have to ensure their identity is secured. It’s as simple as that. And when there is trust, everything will speed up!

God Says: Be Honest in Small Things

The Bible says: (The Message Luke 16: 10-13): “Jesus went on to make these comments: If you’re honest in small things, you’ll be honest in big things; If you’re a crook in small things, you’ll be a crook in big things. If you’re not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store?”

Do What You Promise

In the past few months, we as a Dutch team have come to realize that God asks us to make the basic foundation of our strategy good and stable. We’re making progress and we promised each other to do what we promise. Even in small things. And we see that God is entrusting us more. What a blessing.

So, let’s start ‘doing what we promise’ from today on and see what God will entrust us!
