I very often like to ask myself this question: what could I do today to encourage someone? I expect God to guide me in what I do, and who I should see, so that He can use me in this way.
The Bible says, “The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples, that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to listen as a disciple.” (see Isaiah 50:4, NASB)
It’s something you can do too: every morning, listen in to what God is saying, expecting Him to tell you what to say and how to encourage specific people He places in your path. As a disciple, you’re at God’s beck and call, listening to Him, His Word, His counsel, His orders… And as you do so, it’s He who places the words of encouragement in your mouth. 😊
Often, as I talk with God, I start thinking about a certain person… I believe that’s the Holy Spirit’s way of telling me, “Encourage her today!” or “Catch up with him!,” etc.
Recently, this happened to me, and I thought of one of my friends. I called him. He had just had a stroke and was alone, in a hospital, in a foreign country.
So, if you feel a prompting from God in your heart for someone, call him/her or send a short message. This simple decision could make a huge difference… believe me! And, glory to God, the Lord restored my friend to health.
Let the Holy Spirit lead you and ask God to show you who you can encourage today and how. You’ll see… often it’s these small things that make the difference in people’s lives!
If you’d like, I invite you to pray with me… “Lord, I would like to hear Your voice more than I already do! Open my ears to the beauty of Your voice and my heart to the greatness of Your ways. I choose to listen and respond to what You will ask me. Give me the desire, knowledge, humility, and courage I need. In Jesus’s name, amen.”
May God give you the words you need to encourage others!
