Christian life, like life in general, is like a bike: you have to know how to keep your balance! For that matter, have you noticed that in order to stay balanced on a bike, you have to keep moving forward? I’ll let you meditate on that…
The book of Ecclesiastes teaches us many things about the balance to maintain in life. Here’s what it says: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” (read the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, NLT)
So, there is a time:
- To read His Word, and also to relax with a good book or a good movie.
- To pray, and also to talk to people you love.
- To go to church and…to go on vacation!
Maybe you’re among those who think that being pious is very important and “profitable for all things”…(read 1 Timothy 4:8, NKJV), and you’re right! However, there are traps when we fall into extremes.
Being too demanding on yourself or too legalistic, you risk not only becoming unhappy and frustrated, but above all distancing yourself from God’s heart. He is the One “who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.” (read 1 Timothy 6:17, NLT)
You can unconsciously make your relationship with God a religious duty while God wants us to draw near to Him out of love. He lets the one who wholeheartedly seeks Him find Him… (read Jeremiah 29:13)
Today, God is inviting you to enjoy the life that He generously gives you. Fully enjoying the gifts He gives you also pleases and honors Him! How would you, as a parent, react if your child put aside the gift you’re giving him/her to go and do homework? Wouldn’t you feel a bit offended? And wouldn’t you want to say, “Sweetheart, enjoy your gift, homework can wait…there is a time for everything.”
I encourage you to pray like King David, with a sincere and open heart…“Father, please forgive me for all the times I didn’t know how to appreciate Your gifts. Teach me to enjoy every moment You create. Give me the wisdom to maintain the balance I need for a happy life with You and with others. In Jesus’s name, amen.”
Yes, God loves His children to enjoy all of His benefits!
Thanks for existing!
