Recently, I was in southern France (in the Lérins Islands near Cannes) and took this picture at sunrise during a time of prayer… It was a magnificent moment with the Lord.
This photo made me think… as the sun rises today, I believe that we need another light to rise upon our lives: the light of our Lord Jesus! He said, “‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” (see the Bible, John 8:12)
We need God’s light to shine on the dark places in our lives:
- On our trials
- On our sicknesses
- On our failures and mistakes
- On our gray areas.
We need the light of Christ to rise, even where we don’t want it to go! It needs to be able to penetrate those places we keep secret… often out of fear. Sometimes, we’re a bit like Adam who said, “‘I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.’” (the Bible, Genesis 3:10)
Let Christ’s light in to every room in your life, even the darkest ones. Don’t be afraid! This light is nurturing and regenerative. If it reveals some impurities or dirtiness, it’s because God wants to clean your heart and thoughts. He wants to purify you.
Perhaps He will bring bitterness, jealousy, or vengeance to light? Simply ask the Lord to forgive you and free you.
Yes, if you follow Jesus, you will not walk in darkness but have the light of life!
