Remain faithful to the Lord’s ways

Several years ago, I had to make a choice that cost me my job.
After sending 300 unsolicited application letters, I landed my first job in the secular world as a receptionist. Unfortunately, my contract was brutally cut off three weeks later, after my integrity was tested!

One day, in the manager’s office, I picked up the phone as usual. The caller asked to speak to someone who was right there in the room. The manager whispered to me, “Say that the person they’re trying to reach isn’t here.” I retorted, “I’m sorry, but I can’t lie. It’s against my faith.” Despite her insistence, I maintained my position and once again responded that I could not. The third time, she ordered me, “Say that she isn’t here, or you’re fired right now!” Faced with my refusal, she ripped the phone from my hands and fired me on the spot.

Before leaving the office, I gave a copy of the New Testament to each employee, explaining why I had just lost my job. That evening, I went to church, grieved.

Except for this receptionist job, all of my other application letters had been denied. After I lost this job that I’d worked so hard to research and get, I had the impression that, once again, I had to start from scratch. But the day after I was laid off, a company contacted me: “The person that we hired did not meet our expectations. You were the second person on our list. Would you like to come see us?” Quite unexpectedly, this company offered me 14 months of salary, six weeks of vacation, a beautiful Parisian work environment, near the Parc Monceau, and a job that exactly fit my skills. In all, it was my dream job!

That position was a true gift from God. I could print flyers for the church from my workplace, with my employer’s blessing. I was able to commit time to being a group leader in my church’s youth camps. There was not one moment that I regretted being fired from my previous position!

The most difficult circumstances of our lives sometimes serve to launch us into our destinies. God alone knows the future. Stay faithful to His ways, and He’ll take care of the rest!

A prayer for today: “Lord, I choose today to trust You again completely. Thank you for holding every part of my life in Your hands. Help me today to remain honest and faithful to Your ways. I know that You will never leave me nor forsake me! In Jesus’s name, amen.”
