The most beautiful of gifts…is Jesus!

During the holiday season, we’re always bombarded by advertisements, sales, and commercial offers of all kinds. There’s this expectation that Christmas be big, majestic, celebrated as it “should” be… And gifts are part of the celebration for sure.

When I was a child, I waited for the Christmas season with impatience. I put much thought and great attention into my Christmas wish list, like all children I suppose.

And yet… “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: you will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” (the Bible, Luke 2:11-12)

More than 2,000 years ago, humanity received the most beautiful of gifts… in a stable. Without glitter or sequins, without ribbons. The simplest and most beautiful gift. The greatest of all presents… Jesus, the Christ, the Savior of humanity.

He left the glory of heaven. He became flesh. He came…for you and for me.

On this Christmas day, remember that all the ribbons and gifts in the whole world could never match or equal what HE has done… He came as a simple man who carried our transgressions and died on that infamous cross. As this beautiful song of celebration by Sidney Mohede and Israel Houghton says, “Hosanna in the highest…let our King be lifted up!”
