To love is to act! ?

On this day that people worldwide celebrate Valentine’s Day, I want to encourage you to meditate on the amazing ways God reveals His love to you.

God didn’t reserve His love for a handful of men, for an elite few He meticulously selected because of their good deeds or merits. No, His love extended to all men: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (Read the Bible, John 3:16, NKJV)

I love John 3:16 because it’s the central verse of the Bible that explains the incomparable act of God offering His Son.

God infinitely loves the 7.7 billion people who inhabit our planet, and He knows each of them intimately. That’s why He responded in the face of man’s affliction. He sent His only Son to endure punishment and ignoble suffering on the cross. Jesus bore our sins, our faults, and our condemnation. He was like a lightning rod, diverting God’s wrath that was meant for us. He took it upon Himself!

God’s love is not just a feeling. For God, to love is to act. He loves, so He gives, He gives Himself, and He takes the form of a man.

You know these three words as well as I do: “I love you”…They only become significant when they’re accompanied by demonstrations or proof of love. Otherwise, they echo in the void, they sound hollow… (Read 1 Corinthians 13:1)

God fulfills all the conditions of perfect love:

• Jesus is the demonstration of God’s love!
• He proved His love towards us while we were still sinners. (Read Romans 5:8)  
• He is active, not passive!
• He gives (Himself) before receiving.

It’s this love that God wants to give and reveal to you on this day. Believe in the priceless value of Jesus’ gift and let God’s infinite and unchangeable love infuse you!
