Where can I find wisdom?

Have you ever made a silly decision? I have…tons of them! I’ve made so many decisions based on bad information or a bad attitude. It’s embarrassing to admit that I’ve lacked wisdom on many occasions. Bad financial decisions and horrible employee hires are just a few of my fiascos, and each one cost me something. What have your bad decisions cost you?

The Apostle Paul drew from a vast reservoir of wisdom that helped him write many epistles, establish churches, and win the lost. The Bible says Paul wrote according to the wisdom he possessed: “and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you.” (2 Peter 3:15, NKJV)

The phrase “according to” once again comes from the Greek word kata. Remember that kata instructs us to find the source, and in Paul’s case, it was wisdom. Where did Paul find his wisdom? How can we acquire more? Every decision we make should come from a good source.

The Bible says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5, NKJV) You can ask God for more wisdom, and you will receive it if you ask with faith.

I can remember the big decisions of my life. Each one held my future in its grip. I prayed and fasted on many occasions, only to stumble through a list of options that seemed everything but divine. I learned a few important lessons that I’d like to share with you:

  1. Seek God
  2. Ask Him for wisdom
  3. Seek godly counsel
  4. Look into the Word of God
  5. Consider your options
  6. Count the cost
  7. Pray fervently

God wants to give you wisdom. It can become the filter that will help govern all your choices. You can be wiser because you are a miracle, and I love you more than peanut butter.

When trying to find the right solution, there’s so many options you’re faced with. In your human nature it’s difficult to process what is best for you; therefore, I do my research then I turn it over to God. One thing you must do is be a good listener for God’s answer and understanding not man’s.
