Where does the blessing lie?

How do you react when people do malicious things to you? When they spitefully wrong or hurt you? What emotions rise up inside of you?

In situations like these, it’s definitely normal to feel angry, bitter, and even vengeful… But the Bible shows us that these swirling eddies of emotion don’t have to last. It gives us a different path to follow, a path of much greater hope.

The Bible says, “‘Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27)

It also tells us that we shouldn’t be “…returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.” (1 Peter 3:9)

Here’s the secret to a blessed and peaceful life: don’t let the sun go down on your wrath and bless others when they hurt you. I know, and God knows, that it’s not easy… yet, He knows what is best for us.

That’s where the blessing lies… at the end of this road. God is right alongside you, and His Spirit will give you the strength to accomplish what is right. I believe it, and I’m praying for you!

If you are working to overcome anger today, I invite you to listen to this honest song by Laura Hackett Park called “Anger.” It sheds light on the true nature of anger…as well as the shift that happens when we look to our model and Savior, Jesus!

I don’t want to forgive him. I always apologize and forgive people. But they don’t ever ask my forgiveness. They just go on with life as though they didn’t do anything wrong to me. As though my value is less, oh it’s just Shawn, he’ll get over it. I will forgive, I know, but I don’t want to. I know holding anger is wrong. He is my boss and I feel discord at work and within myself, when I hold it in. I don’t want to get revenge, per se. But I want once for someone to apologize to me when they’ve wronged me. I feel like a mat to be walked on. I’m a little tired of it. But I will knowing my Savior, apologize and forgive and restore. Thank you for hitting my heart button this morning. Needed it.

I’ve come through a lot this year and a lot my victories have due to my forgiving family members I held responsible for my lot in life. I have grown in Christ’s love and have and am learning the powers of forgiveness that takes aware the bitterness of the evil perceived. I discovered that the power of Satan is real and when and where he is able to weird his lies can be overwhelming if one is not continually filled with the spirit of gospel truth. I now have peace in my heart where all seemed desperate and full of disparities. Thank you Jesus.net for being a mighty tool in your true Christian army.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I allow others to wrong me and they don’t apologize. I guess they just know that they can get away with it and I will still love them. But I am working on setting better boundaries with people who keep taking advantage of me.
