What does the Bible say about rest?

Do you have a restless heart? Do you fail to quiet your mind? The Bible is full of texts about rest. In the first Bible book Genesis it already becomes clear how important God thinks it is for us humans to take rest in our lives. The book of Genesis describes how God made the world and how God himself takes rest to enjoy his creation. In addition to physical rest, the Bible often speaks of rest and peace for the soul. What does the Bible say about rest? Let these texts quiet your soul.

God is not a God of disorder

but of peace

1 Corinthians 14:33

Throw everything you’re worried about

into God’s hands

He cares for you

1 Peter 5:7

Come to Me when you are tired

Come to Me when you are bowed down

under the weight of your problems!

I will give you rest

Do what I tell you

Learn from Me

For I am kind

and patiend and humble

Therefore you will find peace with Me

Matthew 11:28-29

Stand still for a moment on the road you are on

Ask for the right road,

the way you used to go.

Because if you choose that road again,

you will be well again.

Then you will have peace again.

Jeremiah 6:16

The Lord cares for me

as a shepherd cares for his sheep

I lack nothing

He lets me rest in green fields

He makes me drink from quiet streams

And He gives me strength

Psalm 23:1-3

He who takes refuge with God, the Most High

can sleep peacefully

for the Almighty protects him.

I bear witness of this

And say to the Lord:

‘You are my refuge,

With You I am safe and secure’

Psalm 91:1-2

My heart turns to God

My salvation comes from his hand

He is truly my rock and my deliverer

He is like a fortress to me

Nothing gets me out of my balance

Psalm 62:2

I give you my peace

The peace I give you

is a different kind of peace

than the peace of the world

Do not be afraid or sad anymore

John 14:27

Don’t worry about:

‘What should we eat?’

‘What should we drink?’

‘And what should we wear?’

Your heavenly Father knows that you need these things

Give the Kingdom of God and doing God’s will the first place

the first place in your life.

Then He will give you all these things

Matthew 6:25-34
