Straight from the heart

Publication date Nov 28, 2021

Have you ever fallen in love? Did that love ever leave you? I’m sure that we’ve all had our hearts broken or disappointed by short-term love. In fact, our society is inundated by one-night stands and broken families.

But God is different, and so are you. The Bible tells us about the love of God: “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (Psalms 107:1, NIV)

I recently saw the love of God in the slums of Mexico. My friend David Donaldson found me with a small team ministering at the southern border. It was amazing to watch God touch people’s lives. I was a little puzzled that my friend just happened to be there, so I asked him, “Dave, what are you doing here?” He surprised me with his answer: “I came to find you.” He then spent a few hours sharing his desire to secure federal funding to help broken people in Nevada. He piqued my interest, so I responded, “Absolutely, I’d love to help.”

The Bible tells us that God is always looking for people like you and me to help. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8, NIV) I love Isaiah’s response: “Here am I. Send me!” That was my response to my friend Dave and the problem of broken families in Nevada.

I’m so thankful that God has done these miracles. We received the grant, we’ve learned a lot from the sincere government officials, and hundreds of men are being helped every week in our county. We were able to hire committed caseworkers and administrators. We then recruited volunteer mentors who help the men make life-changing decisions.

friend, I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I know a loving God who is steadfast and true. I’m so grateful. What are you grateful for, and whom are you thankful for?

The world is a harsh place, but God’s love will flow through you to others because you are a miracle.
