Serenity Prayer

God, give me grace to accept with serenity

the things that cannot be changed,

Courage to change the things

which should be changed,

and the Wisdom to distinguish

the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,

Taking, as Jesus did,

This sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it,

Trusting that You will make all things right,

If I surrender to Your will,

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,

And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

About this prayer

This Serenity Prayer was written in 1943 by Reinhold Niebuhr. In the past century it helped thousands of people in their search for a more stable life.

God has created you and whatever the situation may be; He wants to give you peace, deep inner peace. God can give you a peace, a calmness, that you can’t find anywhere else. Pray and God will give you what you need. Just give it a try!

It is beautifully stated in the Bible: “Present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7).

You can trust that God will bring everything to a good end. Just surrender everything to Him.
