How do you react to disappointment?

“I had been looking forward to the company party for so long, and on that day, of all days, my husband got sick and couldn’t take care of our son. I was sooooo angry at first…”

A friend told me about her significant disappointment because, after a very busy period, she was just looking forward to this event!

“Déborah, I sulked first. I was angry and sad. Then I realized I might be passing by something very valuable. We had long wished for such a cozy family evening, and now we had it.”

Don’t let your emotions take over, because you might overlook the miracle!

My friend continued to reflect: “You know, when I’m feeling down, I’m happy when someone helps me…”

The Bible goes even further than that. It expects such an attitude from us toward every person, not just within our family: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12 NIV)

Maybe you won’t be praised for your selflessness when you give up something that was important to you. Maybe, the next time you need help, you won’t be repaid, and maybe your bad experience is the exact reason why you don’t want to be there for others anymore.

May I encourage you to expect help not from people but from God? From the One who PROMISES you:

“Ask and it will be given to you…everyone who asks receives…how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (from Matthew 7:7-11 NIV)

Your miracle is always just a prayer away. Yes, while you’re waiting for others to help you, God is waiting to be asked to help you.

Surprise your current disappointment today with a selfless attitude. And bring your disappointment to God! You will surely be surprised by what HE has prepared for you.

You are a miracle!

Thank ya’ll for this I really needed it. Deborah my husband is an alcoholic and has Agent Orange illnesses from the Vietnam War and he usually does not drink until drunk when we are traveling but this time he is drinking a lot. Usually no one even knows how much he drinks, because he is a happy-go-lucky Irishman and his personality doesn’t change. Just his children and mine and our siblings know how bad it can be for him. This long awaited vacation is being ruined and I am so sad. Please pray that the last 5 days are better. I am praying for that but I don’t know why it isn’t like usual.
God bless ya’ll for all your prayers and support you give me everyday. Humbly, Sandra
