Jesus will give you the words

AMED 58.20

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He made an incredible promise to His followers: “‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’” (Acts 1:8, NIV)

Have you ever been at a loss for words? Are you ever nervous about public speaking? Is it difficult for you to share your faith?

Why is it so hard to speak up and share our true feelings or faith? Could it be the fear of rejection, ridicule, or punishment?

I’ve got to confess it’s been a big struggle for me. Whether it was asking a girl out on a date, interviewing for a new job, or walking into a room, I felt anxiety. Even after graduating with high honors from graduate school, I still felt the same level of insecurity. Degrees, money, relationships, titles, or possessions cannot rescue you from deep internal fears.

But Jesus can!

The Bible says, “‘…do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say.’” (Matthew 10:19, NIV) The Spirit of Jesus can fill you and make you a witness. He can give you the confidence to speak up and speak out. Here’s my personal formula that helped me overcome my fears:

  1. Ask Him to fill you and empower you.
  2. You may need counseling to understand the source of your fears.
  3. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and take risks.
  4. Take a public speaking course.
  5. Ask others to pray for you.
  6. Reject fear and a spirit of fear.
  7. Be assured that almost everyone struggles with the same fears.

Please invite the power of God to help you because you are a miracle, and so am I.

Thank you for this. I am approaching 60 years old and have struggled with public speaking of any sort. I’m glad that you shared this. Please pray for me that I continue to be bold and courageous not only for Jesus but in other areas of my life.
