Lost in the Fog

In 1952, Florence Chadwick stepped into the frigid waters of the Pacific Ocean off Catalina Island. Her goal was to swim to the shore of mainland California. Florence was already a distance swimming hero as she had been the first woman to swim the English Channel both ways.

The weather was foggy and cold which made the already challenging swim even more difficult.  Unable to see the shore, she still swam for fifteen hours. Uncharacteristically, Chadwick asked to be taken out of the water. Her mother, a part of her support team, tried to encourage her that she was so close to finishing. Florence, however, was disoriented, emotionally and physically exhausted, and simply stopped swimming.

Her team pulled her from the water, and it was only there she discovered that the shore was less than half a mile away. What a heartbreak!

At a news conference the next day, Florence Chadwick said, “All I could see was the fog…I think if I could have seen the shore, I would have made it.”

Maybe you are feeling that way today.

The fog of life surrounds us with worry, depression, doubt, the loss of a job, family issues, money stress or the loss of a loved one. We struggle to keep “swimming”, but the shore just seems out of our reach.

Can I share a miracle with you right now?????

The only thing that burns away FOG is the SUN!!! The Son of God, who outshines the sun, can burn away all of that fog so that you can reach the shore of Heaven. The light of Jesus can overwhelm the darkest moments and flood us with the miracle of hope and healing!

Isaiah 58 says, “Then your light (Jesus Himself!) will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 58:8, NIV, Brackets added)

Malachi says, “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings….” (Malachi 4:2, NIV)

King David says, “For the Lord is a sun and a shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11, NIV)

If you are in the fog, the Son of God can make that fog disappear!

As you head towards the shore, I want to remind you of the words of Paul who reminded us of our true shore:

“One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV)

Our shore is heaven and when we reach it, what a day of miracles that will be!!!

You are a miracle!
