What’s holding you back from doing God’s will?

Have you ever considered whether the path that has been right up until now was perhaps only meant for a certain time in your life? What if God has set an expiration date, but you’re so attached to it that you don’t want to give up this path?

Just like leaving an expired yogurt in the fridge because you think, “It can’t be that bad yet.” Recently, someone told me how they couldn’t believe that chocolate could have an expiration date. And so they bit into their chocolate, enjoying it… and also into one of many little worms… yuck!

What if what God wanted from you yesterday

has nothing to do with what He has planned for you today?

I can tell you what’s holding you back from doing God’s will. Because it’s the same reason that initially held me back. Uncertainty. Not knowing what will happen when we choose the new.

But honestly, the old is uncertain too. Especially when it has a divine expiration date. Even the familiar can suddenly falter when it’s no longer God’s will and has an expiration date. Yes, suddenly there are worms in it…

And that’s why it’s always worth choosing the heavenly path. Even if it initially raises questions, doubts, and uncertainty. From a human perspective, it’s hard to grasp, so we should always turn to heavenly help. Prayer.

Do you want to consciously pray this Psalm with me today and hope that God opens your eyes to what He still has in store for you—and through you? He has good plans for you, that much is certain! “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

Prayer:
“Lord , remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is.” (Psalm 39:4 NLT)

You are a miracle!

Deborah, thank you not just today, but each day I delve into these devotions. They have been a blessing to me. On today’s devotion, it reminded me of when one career ended and about a little over three years later another one began. I did not know that at that time. But as one former co-worker told me “You need to reinvent yourself”, which meant I either would continue with my career that I had for over 30 years or begin something new. It was when I was in Celebrate Recovery a man introduced me to what would be my new career. Over 11 years later, with an interruption of 7 months trying to start something else, I have been blessed in the career I am in. God has helped me in many ways through this transition. You are right, Deborah! I am a miracle. God bless you.
