Why do I struggle with trusting God?

Have you ever struggled with trusting God? Do you surrender your challenges to God only to take them back when things get tough? The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” (Proverbs 3:5, NIV).

Isn’t that one of our biggest problems? We lean on our own intellect, wisdom, and skill to fix our problems. We try to fix other people’s problems. We even feel responsible for problems that are outside of our control. No wonder we get so stressed out. Have you ever heard of codependency and enabling? Do you ever struggle with stress and anxiety?

The Bible also commands us to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;” (Philippians 4:6, NKJV). That sounds kind of idealistic, doesn’t it? Certainly, the Bible writers did not know about viruses like COVID-19. But they lived with leprosy and malaria, Roman oppression, public crucifixions, and stoning. I guess they had it rougher than we do.

I believe our challenges don’t even compare with the sufferings of first-century  Christians. Paul even addressed such a comparison: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18, NIV)

So perhaps it’s not the size of our problems but the size of God that makes all the difference. Maybe we can learn to live without anxiety because we trust God so much. He’s so big, powerful, and compassionate. And He loves you so much. Trust Him to get you through this. Trust Him to grow you through these challenges.

Your God will get bigger and problems will get smaller because you are a miracle.

Honestly, it’s hard to trust GOD because first of all, I don’t trust anyone, including myself. Second, since becoming a Christian (I wanted to say, “giving my life to Christ,” but that might be premature), I’ve had zero victories with GOD. I’ve had a lot of NO’s, and the very few YES’s that I’ve had can be questioned. Did GOD answer me, or did GOD answer a more faithful person, perhaps a prayer warrior, perhaps my grandmother’s sister (she’s a nun). At the end of March, I’m scheduled to have my left foot amputated; therefore, I’m supposed to have a short memory and be thankful for the subtraction in my life. Somehow, that’ll be life in abundance and a future and a hope. I may possibly lose the ability to walk completely; for sure, I won’t be able to just wake up and go relieve myself without crawling, hopping, or taking the time to get in a wheelchair or putting on a prosthesis. I’m supposed to trust GOD through this; why?

    Dear James,
I am saddened to read the news of your upcoming operation. I can’t say I understand, what you are going through and not all will go the way you want it to, but you must trust in the LORD. He will give you the strength and courage you need to get through your difficult time. You may be thinking it’s easy for me to say but everything we go through is for God’s purposes. You must believe something good will come out of the bad. Please don’t give up on our LORD, GOD, he has great plans for your life and he never promised us an easy life. He told us to pickup our cross and follow him. You may not understand it right now but in time you will. I am praying for you James.
    May God bless you!
    You are a miracle!

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Dear James I pray that God will give you the strength to go through the surgery, I pray that God will keep you in perfect peace as you keep your mind on Him. Don’t give up on God because he won’t give up on you He loves you very much. God promise in his word that he will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust God my brother

I want to thank you because I felt like I am the only person who struggles. I don’t feel worthy of God’s forgiveness and that is why I struggle. I use to quote Proverbs 3:5 to others but never to myself.
