"I want to bring hope to people!"
I wrote this sentence in my diary when I was 11 years old. However, at the time, I don't think I realized that I'd have to go through some difficult things myself so that I could understand the power that hope and faith can bring.
From age thirteen to twenty, I battled a severe eating disorder that nearly cost me my life—were it not for my parents and the power of prayer! At 20, I experienced sexual abuse—later in my life, severe emotional abuse. At 21, I almost died from negative effects caused by a blood cyst in my body. At 23, I narrowly escaped a kidnapping in Fiji, and then at 34, I ended up in a very severe depression in which I wanted to take my own life.
That's my resumé.
And that's how I know: your past never has to dictate how your future will unfold! In other words, though these things happened to me, they did not define who I was in Christ and how He would use these events in my life for His glory. God never gave up on me!
Today I realize that each of these stages of my life, no matter how painful, only confirmed that there's a miracle in every wound. I experienced hope in each of these hopeless situations! Yes, I was not only liberated but also became stronger and happier than ever.
For over fifteen years now, I've had the opportunity to travel extensively as a singer, worship leader, songwriter, author, and co-founder of a facility for women with eating disorders, sharing how Jesus changed my life forever!
And now I'm excited that I can pass this hope on to you through A Miracle Every Day, too! I pray that these messages will bring you the hope you need to walk through life with Jesus, one step at a time.
Meet Grant
My name is Grant Fishbook, and I am so honored to be writing for A Miracle Every Day!
Every day, Jesus gives me the miracles of life, joy, and purpose. I am so grateful for His grace and mercy, and I want to invite you to experience these profound gifts, too!
Growing up on the plains of Central Canada, I accepted Jesus at an early age, but I always struggled with “being loved.” I loved God and the people around me, but accepting God’s love was a challenge. Without being able to receive God’s love, I chose to “perform” in order to gain acceptance from people. I would do or say anything that would cause people to like me. In doing this, I completely lost the person that God created me to be.
Here was the problem—I was doing all of the right things for all of the wrong reasons. This path led to deep insecurities, exhaustion, lying, depression, and an utter loss of hope. I found myself alone...BUT....
God’s love never gave up on me! God’s love brought me the undeserved gift of my wife, Laurel, who never wants me to perform. She just wants me to be the person God created me to be! God’s love brought me two cherished kids (who are now both married to two people Laurel and I love dearly) who love their Dad for who he is…and isn’t! God brought me to an authentic church that loves lost and broken people but shares Jesus as the only One who can make you whole. God’s love has blessed me with purpose, truth, endurance, and hope!
My life verse is Galatians 1:10: “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Every day, I want God’s approval, and He gives it in abundance!
I have been privileged to take the message of Jesus to many different countries around the world. Everywhere I go, I see miracles that Jesus is doing in the lives of people. In the face of great suffering in the world, I see a far greater work of God. I want to invite YOU into all that God is doing, knowing that He has a miracle waiting for YOU, too!
My prayer as I write for A Miracle Every Day is that these texts would bring the same light and healing to your heart that Jesus has brought to my own heart!
You truly are God’s miracle!
