Did You Know…?

Mary, did you know?” This is a song that always touches me! But the very last line of this song is one I had never really thought through before: “The sleeping baby you’re holding is the great I AM.”

You might be wondering about the “I am.” It’s the wonderful promise that God is always there for you: “God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’ God also said to Moses, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.’” (Exodus 3:14-15, NLT)

When the baby slept in Mary’s arms, she probably didn’t feel much of that at the time. Instead, she had to be there for the baby, to care for Him, and love Him, not the other way around! But during that time, a bond was formed that nothing could destroy.

It took that time because Mary had to grow into her role! After the incredible things the angel Gabriel had prophesied about the baby (see Luke 1:26-33 NLT), there was still a lot in store for her!

Maybe you’re also wondering why it seems like Jesus is asleep in your life. You’re doing everything, taking care of your relationship with Him, reading the Bible, and praying, but somehow, nothing seems to be happening.

The Bible is full of promises for your life too! Even if you feel like “the baby is asleep,” you can, like Mary, continue to trust that your time will come! Perhaps this is the precious time when you, too, have to grow into this role.

While you may believe nothing is happening, more is actually happening than you think!

Keep going, and don’t forget: “The sleeping baby you’re holding is the great I AM.”

You are a miracle!
