“A Season to Mend”

Publication date Mar 7, 2025

Thanks for being with me on this journey.

In 2010, I came very close to a nervous breakdown. Overwhelmed by the weight of ministry, I was dealing with both anxiety and depression. Struggling, my church leadership gave me a sabbatical, a time to rest and refresh.

Over several months, I found a season of healing and restoration in which God replenished my heart, body, and soul. I will forever be grateful for that spiritual snack and nap that Jesus gave to me as a gift from Him.

Elijah had a moment of breakdown as well. In his season of fear and despair, Elijah needed more than just a solution to his problems. He needed rest, food, and emotional care. God didn’t tell him to snap out of it or try harder; He gave him space to heal. Elijah’s recovery was not quick, but it was necessary. God understood that before Elijah could go back to the battle, he needed to be physically and emotionally restored.“Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, 'Get up and eat.’ He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.

The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.’ So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night.” (1 Kings 19:5-9)

There’s a powerful lesson here: God doesn’t rush us through our pain. He knows we need time to mend. If you’re in a season of weariness or emotional exhaustion, God is calling you to slow down and rest! Allow Him to meet you in your brokenness and restore your soul.

This season of mending isn’t about avoiding the pain; it’s about allowing God to do the deep work of healing. When we stop and rest, we’re better equipped to handle what’s next!

friend, today the same God who offered restoration to Elijah is offering the same to you.

This is what I am learning in my own life—God can offer me rest and restoration, but I have to receive it and enter into the rest that He offers. My friend, are you in a season of mending? Have you given yourself permission to rest and let God heal you? What do you need to stop doing today, with God’s blessing, so that you can prepare for the journey ahead? I pray that you will enter into God’s rest and hope through resting in His presence and His promises.

Let’s enter into that season of rest right now. Let’s pray:

Lord, thank You for Your tenderness in my weariness. Help me to rest in Your care and allow You to restore my soul. I trust that in this season of mending, you are making me stronger for what’s ahead. I give myself to your sweet rest, right now. Amen.

Never forget my friend:

You are a miracle!
