Are You Missing?
Do you know the TV show “Missing?” In this show, presenter Julia Leischik sets out to find missing people, and quite often it's highly emotional, because the stories behind them aren't always the easiest. I find myself shedding a tear every now and then as I follow the stories.
As I read the parable of the lost sheep again this morning, I couldn't help but think of this show and understood much better how it was meant by Jesus when He said:
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?“ (Luke 15:4 NIV)
That's how important the one sheep, the one family member is. That's how important YOU are, friend! Even if your story is a most dramatic one, as so often is the case on the show "Missing," there is nothing God would not forgive you for, there is no reason why He would not welcome you back into His family—even if you had been gone for so long!
In the program—no matter what the background is—people always fall into each other's arms crying. No one says, "But first I want to know why you were gone." There is pure joy at the reunion.
This joy is evident as Jesus continues the parable: "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." (Luke 15:7 NIV)
Do you understand that, friend? It means that the door that leads back into the family of God is always open to you and to me.
Do you want to come home? A prayer can change everything! Jesus is only a prayer away.
You are a miracle!
