Are you more performance or relationship-oriented?

Publication date Feb 17, 2022

If you’ve read some of my writings, you may know that I’m more naturally oriented towards “projects and performance” than I am towards “personal relationships,” but God has really changed this about me, just as He has changed other things about me, too…

What about you? Do you sometimes think things like this about your relationship with God?

  • “I didn’t give Him enough of my time today!”
  • “I could’ve/should’ve read my Bible more!”
  • “I haven’t even prayed for 10 minutes today!”

Life with God isn’t a matter of performance...but of relationship. God doesn’t want something from you, friend.

He isn’t necessarily looking for more prayers on your part, more good works, or more of this or that. Of course, these things may help you draw closer to Him and know Him better. But more than these “things to do,” God wants you, all of you.

The author C.S. Lewis said it this way: “God doesn’t want something from us. He simply wants us.”

God simply wants YOU. He’s seeking your heart above all, friend. He wants to be in relationship with you directly, not superficially.

The Bible encourages us to give ourselves entirely to God: “...offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to Him as an instrument of righteousness.” (Romans 6:13, NIV) And that’s what’s precious in God’s eyes: not what you accomplish first and foremost…but the person you are with Him. The Lord wants to have a relationship with you first. That’s His priority. I pray that it becomes yours and mine, each and every day!

Thanks for existing, and you are a miracle!
