What steals your peace?

Publication date Sep 18, 2024

What's the worst thing that could happen to you here on Earth, friend? Have you ever asked yourself this question? And do you have an answer to it?

I recently asked myself this question when some unpleasant news tried to take away my peace. And I was surprised by myself because asking this question is really valuable. Especially regarding all the things that try to stress us out:

"Déborah, what happens if you can't pay this bill, in the absolute worst-case scenario?" I thought, "Well, I'll pay interest... it will just cost more. But I'll still be alive."

"And what if you don't meet the deadline for your next book in the worst-case scenario? ...well, then I'll have to talk to the publisher again. In the worst case, the book just comes out later." Hmm, not really that bad either.

I even asked myself, "What if you had to die because of a diagnosis?" Yes, friend, today I want to go that far and also address this worry that might take away your peace.

"Yes, then..." Hmm, what then? Even here, I was surprised by my answer... "Yes, then it would be a shock at first, of course... but honestly? I would still have peace about it... I know what awaits me afterward!"

And as I looked at everything that tried to take away my peace that day with this perspective, I realized that many things that try to steal my joy actually don't have as much power as I give them.

Don't give what steals your peace more power than it actually has!

Do you know what I mean, friend? We often make a mountain out of a molehill. But today, you can put the many things that weigh you down into the right perspective!

God's encouragement is found today in Matthew 6:

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:25-34 NIV)
