Are you stuck in a rut?

Publication date Oct 15, 2021

Counselors and psychologists seem to agree that everyone develops patterns of thinking. These patterns are called mindsets, cardinal traits, personality traits, and archetypes. The Bible also refers to patterns. In fact, Paul the Apostle admonishes us to “...not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2, NIV)

Have you ever been stuck in a bad cycle or pattern of thinking? Have you ever been trapped in addictive behaviors? I’ve heard many people confess to being caught in downward spirals or addictive cycles. This series has been awesome because I’ve been able to share a few principles that can help you change old cycles. These principles are personal to me. They set me free from the patterns of the world.

Here are a few more principles for you to add to your emotional and spiritual tool kit:

  1. Have you confessed to anyone else? “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16, NIV)
  2. Have you tried to help someone else? “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, NIV)
  3. Have you asked God and others to forgive you?

I’ve had a hard and long road to change my brain. I’m a first-generation Christian. Our family went to church twice a year. We believed in God, but our belief systems were very toxic. I was thinking about killing myself by my 20th birthday. But I filled myself with the Word and surrounded myself with a great God and good leaders.

friend, what’s your story? Do you need to break generational patterns? You can do it, but it will take a lot of work, healthy friends, coaches, and a good God.

Don’t forget that you are a miracle, miracles may take a truckload of work, and that’s ok. You are loved by God and me.
