Are You Whole Again?

Publication date Jun 16, 2023

"Déborah, can't you eat any kind of butter?"

How many times have I heard that phrase, even years after I was anorexic, and each time, I struggled to find the right answer.

Would they understand? Personally, I celebrated being able to reach for some form of fat, even if it was just the light version of a special margarine that I bought in France because it wasn't available in Germany.

In the eyes of others, this was incomprehensible and an extra expense, but for me it was my little personal victory over many years of eating disorder. At the time, I would never have believed I would ever again be able to eat anything that came into contact with fat.

friend, we all have parts of our personal journey that no one on the outside can see. We celebrate victories that no one can understand, let alone join in celebrating. That makes it all the more valuable that we do it ourselves and not let anyone tell us there's something wrong or not good enough about us.

Parents celebrate their child when he or she simply plays in a soccer game, even if their child doesn't score a goal. That's not their expectation, but something that can still happen over time.

As time goes on, you continue to develop and grow as you persevere in your own personal rhythm.

"Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel." (Zechariah 4:10 NIV)

Be gracious with yourself and ask God to help you in the areas where you need to change. Are there still some traces of your addictions or sins that you would like to be freed from?

God’s Word says: "...This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (Zechariah 4:6 NIV)

friend, I too had to ask God for help. I had to ask Him to teach me how to eat again. And you know what? He did. Today I love to eat and probably eat more than all my friends, haha!

God doesn't do things by halves; He wants to make you whole again too!

You are a miracle!
