Do you have a place to retreat to?
Here’s a sentence that would be enough on its own today. Just one sentence that, if put into practice, can move mountains: To move forward, you need to retreat.
This is the solution to everything. Oh, if only we could understand that. That’s why I want to encourage you today to train yourself to have a ritual.
Let me give you a personal example. There’s a bridge not far from my home. And every time something happens, I go to that bridge. And by something, I mean anything and everything:
A challenging email, a decision, being overwhelmed by uncontrollable sadness. I also like to pray there before upcoming events. For you, friend, yes, even for you.
I’ve stood on that bridge in rain, sunshine, and the biggest storms. And you know what, friend? That bridge is so solid that I always feel safe standing on it.
This bridge reminds me that even when everything around me is shaking, even when my emotions are all over the place, God is still the same, the steady rock that I can stand on. The Bible says: “The Lord is my rock... my refuge, my safe place.” (from Psalm 18:2 NLT)
David also knew the value of a retreat and said: “You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.” (Psalm 119:114 NLT)
friend, if you’ve decided to live your life with Jesus, it’s important to give Him not just a part of your life, but your WHOLE life. From your first cup of coffee to when your head hits the pillow.
That’s why you need a retreat. Even if you only build it in your mind because it’s not possible for you to leave your home. Or maybe it’s that one chair in your living room where you know: “When I sit here, I’m consciously with Him.”
friend, you need Jesus. And He wants to help you. To experience that, to move forward with Him, it’s going to be important that you learn to retreat.
Do you want to start today?
You are a miracle!
