Do you like watching comedy?
I love lying on the couch after a long day and listening to the sketches of South African comedian Trevor Noah.
In one of his sketches, he recounts how, as a little boy, he asked his mother, "Mom, how do I deal with being racially insulted?" Without hesitation, his mother shaped a large bucket with her arms and said, "You throw it in there and mix it with the love of Jesus!"
When Trevor found himself in such a situation many years later, he immediately responded in exactly the same way! He couldn’t help but mix the insult with the love of Jesus and, instead of letting the hurt get to him, he responded with a smile. And this was despite not considering himself a devout Christian.
He went on to explain how this act not only took away the power from the man who tried to hurt him but also unexpectedly gave him the love that was missing in his own life.
I can only repeat this, *|FNAME|*: "Hurt people hurt people." And today, I’d like to add: "Loved people love people."
And you need to understand that in such moments, it’s not about your feelings. It’s about knowing that you are loved and that everything thrown at you can fall into that bucket where you mix it with the love of Jesus!
I hope you know this, *|FNAME|*. If not, then try it out today: You can go back to Jesus when you’re hurt, but you could also go to Him before anything hurts you.
And then, take this knowledge, take this love and pass it on to those who have never heard of it.
Let’s pray: “Lord, give us Your love every morning anew! Then we can sing and rejoice as long as we live!” (Psalm 90:14 NIV). Amen.
You are a miracle!
