Dreams Are Dreams
There are phrases that we should erase from our vocabulary.
"Dreams are dreams," for example.
How did such a dangerous saying manage to take up so much space in our language?
And in German, there is an even more dangerous saying: “Dreams are like surf foam”.
You know the foam that can be seen for a moment when a gentle wave rolls onto the beach at the seaside and foams there for a moment?
Only for a moment, because then it seeps away into the sand. Is that how we talk about our dreams, friend? “Dreams are dreams”? Or “Dreams are like surf foam”.
Words have power! We already read that in Proverbs: "The tongue has the power of life and death..." (Proverbs 18:21 NIV) If words decide life and death, your words can certainly decide the future of your dreams!
So how do you talk about your dreams, friend? Could it be that you have even stopped dreaming because you are in a desert time of your life?
Joseph would have had every reason to stop believing in his dream, even though God had confirmed to him through two dreams that He would use him for great things. (See Genesis 37:5-9 NIV) But strangely enough, he ended up in prison shortly thereafter!
Dreams are just dreams after all, or can they be more?
During his time in prison, Joseph was asked by others to interpret their dreams (see Genesis 40:8 NIV). Would his reaction be, "Sorry, I don't believe in dreams anymore. Look where they have led me?" Wouldn’t that have been a natural response for him?
I admire Joseph for continuing to believe in his dreams even in his desert time, in prison! Because he kept on dreaming, even while he surely had to struggle inside himself, he also experienced God's faithfulness!
After the dream comes the test—but above all stands God's faithfulness.
friend, keep dreaming! Keep believing! Don't be unsettled, but speak LIFE into your dreams. Words have power over life and death—and dreams!
You are a miracle!
