Have you ever met a “Jerry”?
Have you ever met an unselfish networker? I did a few weeks ago at a Maxwell conference when I sat down for an early morning breakfast with my buddy Johnny. Jet lag woke both of us up at 4:00 am, and I couldn’t wait for the breakfast service to begin. We grabbed exquisite omelets and picked an empty table next to a friendly face. That’s when I met Jerry.
As I’ve told you before, I always ask a few questions of every person I meet:
- What’s your name?
- Where were you born?
- What do you do for a living?
I love God, and I love people...so asking questions and listening is my personal secret sauce. What’s your secret sauce?
Jerry reminded me of a man named Barnabas. The Bible tells a beautiful story about Barnabas risking his reputation and future by introducing Saul to the leadership: “But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.” (Acts 9:27, NIV) Jerry was a lot like Barnabas, encouraging me by asking questions and immediately helping me connect with other people: “Whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means ‘son of encouragement’)” (Acts 4:36, NIV).
friend, will you be generous with your time, talents, and resources? I’m so grateful for people like Jerry, and I want to be more like him.
How about you? Will you be grateful, generous, and help people make connections? I believe you will because you are a miracle.
