Here’s a Tip for You
“I can’t relate to church at all…”
Have you ever tried talking about your faith with someone, friend? I can almost guarantee that you’ll get this response almost every time.
So how do you react? It’s risky when we start defending our faith or the church. What helps much more in such cases, friend?
Exactly: When you share your personal experiences. You might even say, “You know what? I had the same experience. But let me tell you what God has personally done for me after I cried out to Him… and today, today I’m at a point where I can forgive and love. Yes, I am free.”
Oh, don’t you think that would be much more effective, friend? People may, understandably, have critical questions about the church. But they won’t question your personal experience with Jesus that you share with them as quickly!
And when they see the love with which Jesus has met you, they may eventually open their hearts to that love and pass it on to others—maybe even to the church.
You know, friend, we waste so much time hitting people over the head with our opinion about faith (or the church), often taking away their chance to get to know Jesus personally. It’s much more valuable to share your personal experience—not your opinion—with people.
God never said, “Go to your colleagues and talk to them about all the things you would do differently.” He said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15 NIV)
The word gospel comes from the Greek (εὐαγγέλιον, "euangelion") and means literally good news or glad tidings. And yes, it’s really very good news! So let’s be mindful of how we talk about it.
Preach the gospel, friend. Preach the good news.
You are a miracle!
