How did Jesus pray?

Publication date Nov 6, 2021

Prayer is intended to be personal and intimate. Each person should find his/her quiet place and create an ambiance that helps him/her connect with God, hear from Him, and unload every burden onto His broad shoulders. As Jesus once said, “‘Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)

Prayer will help you go to Jesus in a personal way. In fact, He demonstrated to His disciples a perfect prayer life. Let’s look at five secrets of Jesus’ prayer life:

  1. Jesus spoke to His Father in a warm and honoring way: “‘...Father, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come...’” (Luke 11:2, NIV).
  2. Jesus included us in His prayer life...notice how He says, “our Father.” He loved His Father and shared Him with us: “‘In that day you will ask in My name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father Himself loves you because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God.’” (John 16:26-27, NIV)
  3. Jesus made sure to give God all the glory for the signs, wonders, and miracles that flowed through His life: “‘Father, glorify Your name!’ Then a voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.’” (John 12:28, NIV)
  4. Jesus created intimate times alone with His Father: “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” (Luke 6:12, NIV)
  5. Jesus was real and raw in His times of prayer: “‘Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.’” (Luke 22:42, NIV)

friend, do you see practical steps to turn your prayer life into something dynamic and powerful? You can be real and raw with your Heavenly Father. You should release every toxic worry and weight to Him. Don’t forget that prayer is communication, so talk to Him and then listen for wisdom, solutions, and inspiration from the Holy Spirit.

Prayer used to be a chore for me, but it’s become the best part of my day. I get filled, inspired, and energized by the Spirit every day, and you can, too, because you are His miracle.
