Is your faith full of dynamite?
Do you believe your faith can become explosive? The second most common word for power in the New Testament is “dunamis.” It means the explosive, miracle-working power of God that will change a life, raise people from the dead, or change a city. Acts 1:8 promises us this level of power: “‘But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’” (Acts 1:8, NKJV)
A member of the church needed that power one day on a highway outside of Las Vegas. Leanne and her family were on a road trip. The two cars filled with loved ones smoothly careened down the highway until one of the cars blew a tire and flipped into a mangled pile of metal. She saw the whole mess.
friend, can you imagine the horror? Leanne slammed on her brakes and ran towards her brother’s body that had been thrown from the car. He lay dead in a bloody mess. Her mother reached the horrible scene and wept out loud. What would you have done under these circumstances?
Leanne responded with a power that far exceeded her small frame. She turned towards her mom and screamed at her, “Mom, do you believe in God?” Her mom seemed to stop in this moment of tragedy and said, “Yes, I believe.” Leanne reached down to her brother’s lifeless body and screamed, “Come back to life now, in Jesus’ name!” To the amazement of all, her brother jumped to his feet and started walking.
friend, I’ve never raised anyone from the dead, but Leanne has. The miracle of resurrection could not have happened without the “dunamis” power that is available to all of us. The explosive power of God is available to you, too. You never know when you’ll need it, but it will be there if you ask for it and then use it with faith. Peter said, “‘...Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.’” (Acts 3:6, NKJV)
Dare to ask and believe because you are a miracle.
