It was worth the wait...

Publication date Feb 23, 2021

Some things in life are worth waiting for, like a life partner, the birth of a child, the purchase of your first home, a dream vacation, or a significant promotion. What have you worked for, waited for, and sacrificed for? Were you finally rewarded for your perseverance and patience?

There is an old proverb that says, “good things come to those who wait.” Although waiting is not popular, it is spiritual. The Bible says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,” (Galatians 5:22, NIV).

The disciples risked it all by going back to Jerusalem to wait on the directives of Jesus and the Promise of the Father, but they were richly rewarded: “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:1-4, NIV)

Waiting on God will enable us to experience His power, love, and the miraculous. Can you imagine the sound in the upper room? A mighty, rushing wind filled the room as 120 believers were quietly waiting in prayer. They were risking their lives by meeting together in prayer.

It reminds me of all the restrictions and lockdowns that have crippled our society. People are terrified by a virus. Many governments even forbid us from gathering together. The disciples had it much worse. The Romans and religious zealots could’ve had them all killed, but the disciples insisted on following the commandment of Jesus: “‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.’” (Acts 1:4, NIV)

friend, I believe that great things are coming to you. God will fulfill His promises. Don’t quit and don’t give up. God will answer your prayers. He will do the incredible. He’s not finished with you because you are a miracle.
