Love looks like something
What will love look like to you in 2022? I had a dream the other night that seriously messed me up, shifting my choices and even my career. I don’t remember the details of the dream, but I’ll never forget the words that popped into my consciousness: “Give up the crown and take up the towel.” Well, I knew exactly what that meant. My mind immediately drifted to this scripture: “After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.” (John 13:5, NIV)
Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, chose to wash the feet of His disciples…even the feet of Judas! Serving others is the greatest and most unselfish act that we can choose. I immediately knew that Jesus was calling me to give up my position of leadership in the movement I’ve led for 30 years and serve the poor, the hurting, and the broken in a more significant way.
I have a good friend named Dave who started an organization called CityServe. This non-profit has a tremendous vision to love people through generosity and compassion. It has access to food and products thanks to Costco, Walmart, Amazon, and the USDA. With these miracles and a ton of love, the people in this organization are also raising up normal people to become heroes to the hurting. Dave asked me to help bring CityServe to Nevada.
friend, it seems funny to me that God is calling me to jump out of my boat of security and position to help with this movement. I don’t have a warehouse, staff, forklift, salary, or money, but God has my big “YES!” I’ve chosen to take this bold step because I’ve had a great life. God has spoiled me, so it’s time for me to put the towel around my waist and serve, serve, serve. I believe that love starts with a yes to God. Will you say yes to God?
Heidi Baker once said, “Love looks like something.” Would you join me in 2022 and become a river of love and compassion to broken people? Your acts of love will look different than mine, but they will have God’s dynamic impact so that people “‘may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’” (Matthew 5:16, NIV)
friend, will you say yes to God in 2022? Will you say yes to love in 2022? By the way, you are a miracle!
