May God increase your seed for sowing

Most of my grandkids love to sit with me during church services. We cuddle, worship, and laugh a lot, but we know that food will keep them content and that our iPads will keep them entertained. But during the offering, they seem to perk up and pay attention. I’ll often hand them a few dollars to place in the offering bucket to teach them the art of giving to God.

In many ways, God does the same with us. He gives us salaries, inheritances, bonuses, and blessings and then watches us give back. It seems rather silly that many Christians struggle with tithing. God gives us 100% of our blessings and only asks for 10% back. It sounds like a good deal to me. The Bible even says, “Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed...” (2 Corinthians 9:10, NIV).

Could it be that God holds a few blessings back from those who are not sowers? Could it be that the sowers will have so much more than the hoarders? That same verse has another promise that amazes me: “...[He] will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:10, NIV) In other words, giving, serving, and tithing will produce three types of harvest:

  1. Souls
  2. Righteousness
  3. Finances

friend, did you know that God gives you seed to sow and promises to reward your obedient sowing? That’s kind of crazy, isn’t it? Are you lacking finances? Then sell something and give the income to your church. Do you have talents? Great, then volunteer for a non-profit organization. Are you feeling lonely? Okay, it’s your turn to find a hurting person and help him/her. Happiness is found in giving. Doesn’t the Bible say, “...remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35, NIV)?

I know you will start giving like crazy. Look for the seed and increase your harvest because you are a miracle.
