Never give in
Winston Churchill is one of the most iconic leaders in history. He is one of my favorite game changers. It was my privilege to visit four historic Churchill sites a few years ago, and I was very moved by the bunker visit. As many of you know, London was being bombed by the Nazi regime almost every day during World War II. Hitler was sure that England would fold under his military power as every other European nation had.
But England had a leader who famously said, “This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty.” His daily radio soliloquies would encourage his nation to keep fighting in spite of all the carnage. The bunker is much like it was over 60 years ago, but a few pictures have been added of the unforgettable acts of bravery that marked the heartbeat of the United Kingdom. I was especially moved by a picture of an aid ship that had been sunk by a Nazi submarine. I can remember staring at that picture and thinking about my uncle, Jean Jacque, who had died like this. I stood there and wept over an uncle who had given his life during the war. As a merchant marine in the Canadian army, he’d been tasked with bringing supplies to help the British survive the Nazi blitzkrieg. Churchill was a game changer, but so was my uncle. He volunteered for the cause and paid dearly with his life.
friend, who’s your favorite game changer? Why do you choose that person?
The Bible says we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, many of whom were heroes, soldiers, first responders, or countless unnamed champions who risked it all, gave it all, and served others unselfishly. “‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.’” (Mark 10:45, NKJV)
Would you become the next game changer in your home, business, or community? I wrote Game Changers because the world is hurting right now. It needs people like you and me to rise up and make a difference. People will notice, your kids will notice, and heaven will notice.
Because you were born to become a miracle.
