Our Daily Bread
Let me pray for you as we begin today:
Father, thank You for the reminder that You have our lives in Your hands. Today, as we talk about requirements that we need met, I pray that whatever need friend has, You would meet it today in a way that friend knows You are the giver of good things. Thank You in advance for the answers You will provide today. In Your name, Amen.
I love this part of the Lord’s Prayer because of the word “today.” Life goes by one day at a time which means the rest of my life starts with today. What a request: Give me today, God, what I need for today. Thank You for giving me just what I need.
According to a recent poll, most Americans think it is good to pray before meals. Often, we say “grace” to thank God for the food. G.K. Chesterton, an English writer, philosopher, Christian apologist, said we should say “grace” more often than just at meals.
He says, “You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.”
God says in His Word not to worry about tomorrow because tomorrow has enough worries of its own. (Matthew 6:34, NIV). Trust God with provision for today, and that’s enough. In that trust, friend, thank God for all the good gifts:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17, NIV)
Maybe today, friend, your daily bread is to feel loved, or to extend mercy to someone difficult to love. Or maybe your need is physical, financial or emotional. God will provide all that we need, and to request that without saying thank you is just plain rude. What a good reminder to thank God for all the parts of His provision, which extends past just short term need for a hamburger!
Trust God today to provide you with whatever your need is, and be thankful. He is a good God who provides good things!
You are a miracle!
