Resting in God's faithfulness

Publication date Apr 25, 2023

You know when someone is on your case? It's very uncomfortable because it means that someone is just waiting for you to make a mistake and then hold it against you.

Unfortunately, that's what happened to me in my last apartment with my landlord. I was all the happier when I moved out, when he signed the document confirming that I'd left the apartment in good condition. But not three days had passed before the phone rang: "Ms. Rosenkranz, we found something after all. Now it's going to be expensive."

I was already in bed with a fever, exhausted from the move and, frankly, from the stress my landlord had caused me, and now it was all going to continue. Really? Why?

I just longed for rest, friend. To sleep in. To get healthy. To simply be allowed to settle into my new home. But it looked like that wouldn't happen for the next few weeks. Unless...

Unless I would believe in the faithfulness of GOD! Not only AFTER the storm but right in the midst of it. Jesus says in John, "'Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.'" (John 14:1, NIV

I know we may doubt sometimes whether this one verse, this one phrase, really applies in our everyday lives. But friend, let me reassure you again…God is faithful! Here are just two verses that confirm this truth for the past as well as for the present and future:

"'Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.'" (Deuteronomy 7:9, NIV

"Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens." (Psalm 119:89, NIV

No one can be on your case forever because God is in charge for all eternity!

And do you know what, friend? As I write this, I'm not sure how the situation with my landlord will turn out, but I do know one thing for sure: God's Word is enough for me. I rest in this truth, even in the midst of the storm: God is faithful. Period.

Will you believe that with me today, for your situation, too?
