Take every thought captive
Have you ever had crazy thoughts or dreams? I’m pretty sure that all of us have. I know I have. We recently learned that thoughts and interpretations lead to feelings. Feelings lead to options, and options lead to choices. So, it’s crucial for us to target the thoughts that have caused toxic results and the thoughts that have helped us accomplish great things.
The Bible says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV) Notice that the battle for our destinies is not in the hands of the government, the economy, or any other spiritual force. The battle is won in our minds by:
- Taking every thought captive
- Submitting our thoughts to Jesus Christ
- Using the weapons of our warfare, as 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, to fight daily.
I’ve often encouraged Christians to be thermostats and not thermometers. A thermostat changes the temperature in a room. When it’s 115 degrees in Las Vegas, I need to set our air conditioning units at 74 degrees. A thermometer would only make me more miserable, but a thermostat makes life more comfortable.
friend, are you a thermostat or a thermometer?
The negativity, fear, and hatred highlighted in the media are not my reality. My filter for every event in our crazy world is the Word of God. The truths of the Bible cause me to feel hope. The Bible says, “All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18, NIV) I plan my life and future with endless optimism because “To them, God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27, NIV)
friend, it truly is a daily choice. With God’s help, you can change the world one person at a time. You can become a game-changer at work or on the soccer pitch because you’ve been designed to be a miracle. God loves you more than you will ever know.
