TEHILLAH: to praise; spontaneous praise
I hope you are experiencing the miracle of worship each and every day. I was just thinking about how often a song pops into my head throughout the day. Often, my mood will determine whether or not the song is happy or sad. Just today I found myself singing, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” “In Christ Alone,” “Living on a Prayer,” (yes, the BonJovi version!) and the National Anthem!
What about you, my friend?
When you are in a place that doesn’t feel like home, or in a place that feels overwhelming, or in a place where you can’t contain your joy…what’s on the playlist of your soul? What do you sing when life goes sideways? What do you sing when you are bent out of shape? What song do you sing when you’re sad? What song do you sing when you’re happy? What song do you sing when you need a miracle?
The word “TEHILLAH” means laudation, a hymn, a song of praise, a new song, a
spontaneous song. Tehillah is the form of worship that bubbles out of you in a spontaneous moment of praise. This word is used 57 times in the book of Psalms alone.
When King David was overwhelmed by his life or the simple presence of GOD,
he would allow a song to just come out of this mouth. Let’s listen to a few right now!
“He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise (tehillâh) to our God; many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:3, NIV)
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise (tehillâh); give thanks to him and praise (bârak) His name.” (Psalm 100:4, NIV)
To be honest, I love OLD songs. I love songs that I know well enough so that I can sing along. Why do you think God would instruct us to make room for new songs? Could it be that new songs open the doors to new opportunities for praise?
Isaiah 43 says: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19, NIV)
friend, God is doing a new thing. He is putting a new song in your heart right now. I want to challenge you to add a new song to the playlist of your soul. Make it a song of deliverance and hope. As God puts a new song in your heart, may your miracle become a reality today. God is doing a NEW thing right now!
You are a miracle!
