Then suddenly…

I love Christmas Eve in Las Vegas because you never know what’s going to happen. One year, it actually snowed. What? That’s right, you never know when unexpected things will happen in my city.

Has anything wonderful or surprising ever happened to you on Christmas Eve?

I think back and remember so many times when comical and curious things happened that could only occur in Las Vegas. For example, one time, an Elvis Santa crashed the family Christmas celebration! I love this city because of its unpredictability…“suddenlies” happen all the time!

The Bible tells a wild story about a few homeless teenagers who suddenly saw an angel. The angel announced the Good News, and then, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.’” (Luke 2:13-14, NIV)

friend, don’t forget that these kids were terrified by just one angel, and then suddenly, the entire sky was filled with more of these majestic and beautiful angels singing glory to God! It strikes me as quite ironic that God would throw a heavenly concert for a few poor kids. No huge, jubilant multitude or royal attendees were present. Maybe the concert wasn’t really for the shepherds…perhaps it was for Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The shepherds were only granted a peek into heaven’s celebration. It reminds me of Jesus’ promise: “‘In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.’” (Luke 15:10, NIV) It’s funny, but I think heaven throws the best parties for the wildest reasons.

friend, do you know that God sees you differently than others may? He loves you so much that He gave His only Son for you. Even if you were the only person in the galaxy, Jesus would’ve died for you so that you could have life and life more abundantly. “‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’” (John 10:10, NIV)

He loves you because you are a miracle, and I love you more than snow.
