This Sadness Needs to Go Today!

Publication date Feb 20, 2025

Are you feeling a little down right now, friend? Maybe even for no reason?

There could be various reasons for that. We’ve looked at some already, and today, we’ll keep dexploring—because sometimes, we can do something ourselves to find joy again, and sometimes we need each other in prayer.

Let me ask you intentionally: Do you currently feel like you’re just going through the motions and not really living?

friend, let me remind you of a clear advantage you have that others (unfortunately) don’t: You have God. You have Jesus, of whom it is said, “Christ has set us free to live a free life.” (Galatians 5:1 MSG). And through Him, the Holy Spirit.

friend, if you’re not sure whether you have the Holy Spirit, then: “Ask God, and He will give it to you!” (Luke 11:9 NIV). For it is written: “If you, who are hard-hearted, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” (Luke 11:13 NIV

So, what does all this have to do with your current feeling of unexplained emptiness? Paul reveals the answer in Galatians 5, and I love how he doesn’t say, “You have a problem,” but instead, “WE have a problem”:

“For the sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.” (Galatians 5:17 NLT).

And now, the key point: “But when you are directed by the Spirit…” (Galatians 5:18 NLT), then, EVERYTHING CHANGES!

The verse says, “Our sinful nature…” The term sinful nature describes a quality or behavior where a person thinks primarily or exclusively of themselves. And while you’re thinking, “My life feels terrible right now. I feel so unmotivated. I want more than just going through the motions,” do you notice how often the words “I” and “me” are used here?

That’s the enemy’s trick! He tries to focus our attention on what WE are missing, while through the Holy Spirit, we have everything WE need and can give to OTHERS!

Yes, it says: “The Spirit produces only good things in our lives: love and JOY…” (Galatians 5:22 NLT).

Ask the Holy Spirit IN YOU to touch your heart and lead you out of your current sadness!

You are a miracle!
