Tighten your belt.
"The truth is your belt" (Ephesians 6:14 NIV).
Do we really know why the belt was needed back when this verse was written, friend?
Probably not, and that's why I'm excited to take a brief look behind the scenes today so we all understand better. The belt isn't just about fashion accessories, or a great belt with rhinestones. This is about a belt that played an important role for soldiers back then:
1. The belt helped secure and keep in position the uniform, especially for uniforms with heavy equipment pieces.2. The belt was used to stabilize the soldier's body.3. In some armies, the belt also had a symbolic meaning. It was considered part of the uniform and could indicate the rank or affiliation of the soldier.
Overall, the belt was important for soldiers in the past to carry equipment, secure the uniform, stabilize the body, and have a certain symbolic meaning.
And now it says: "The truth is your belt" (Ephesians 6:14 NIV).
This also means that you need the truth to:1. Secure your uniform - representing your faith. So that nothing "slips."2. Stabilize your body. Indeed. Because like a soldier, you will have to carry heavy burdens at times. But with the belt of truth, you can still walk upright.3. Never forget Whose you are. Yes, the "belt of truth" stands for your identity. (see Ephesians 1:5 NIV)
Wondering where exactly you can find this truth, friend?
Behold, Jesus says: "I am the way, the truth, and the life!" (John 14:6 NIV)
In short: "In this case, it makes sense to tighten the belt." Have an intense relationship with Jesus, and by doing so, secure yourself from falling when things get tough.
Strive for the truth. You simply don't have time for anything else.
You are a miracle!
