What anointing do you carry?

Publication date Aug 10, 2021

I remember watching a young hockey player by the name of Wayne Gretzky when he was just 16 years old. My college buddies had urged me to watch a junior hockey game in Ottawa, Canada, with a young player who was truly special. We were all playing for the University of Ottawa team and thought we were pretty good...until we saw this skinny kid put on a scoring clinic for everyone to see. It was quite an amazing thing because he was not big, strong, or fast, but he stood out amongst all the other players. He had an anointing.

friend, what’s your anointing? Do you understand that God has designed a supernatural partnership with you? You have been endowed with a specific set of skills, talents, and passions to help you accomplish your divine assignment. They are only fully activated when the Spirit of God touches your life.

Practice, study, education, effort, and gifts are all important, but there is an oil from heaven that can activate you to achieve great things—the anointing. “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you;” (1 John 2:27, NKJV).

friend, you can learn how to be empowered by this anointing, but first you must:

  1. Ask God to forgive you for settling for less than your best.
  2. Learn to go for His divine design referenced in Psalms 139: “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” (Psalms 139:14, NKJV)
  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the courage to discover and abide in your anointing.
  4. Discover your loves and passions and pursue them.
  5. Be coachable! Be teachable!

The anointing is very practical. You may not be able to make a great living doing it, but you can make a great life. Paul discovered that he loved ministry, but he made tents to pay the bills. He made tents so that he could pursue his passion and divine assignment.

friend, I pray that you will discover, pursue, and grow in your anointing because you’ve been designed to be a miracle.
