What’s really profitable?

Publication date Oct 30, 2021

Hey, how are you doing? I’ve met so many people who have changed careers, homes, cities, and even relationships because of the shutdowns.

I live in the tourist town of Las Vegas. Have you ever heard of it? It’s known for its cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and ancient buildings. Oh, I’m sorry, that’s not Las Vegas, Nevada. That’s Paris, France. The lockdowns temporarily crushed our city. Our church was forced to respond to real hunger and unemployment. By God’s grace, we were able to help over 300,000 households with large boxes of food provided by my friends at City Serve. God deserves all the glory for meeting the needs of hurting people.

I’ve also seen another trend during these changing times: profits. Some companies and business owners are experiencing great progress and bringing in substantial sums of money and property. I recently bumped into a man who owns a home inspection company. He’s a solid Christian who is thanking God for his windfall. Home sales have skyrocketed in our city, and the construction industry is experiencing a renaissance. Entire industries are making huge profits during this pandemic. This reminds me of the patriarch Isaac. The Bible says, “Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.” (Genesis 26:12, NKJV)

Gideon was also a Bible character who profited. He was “threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites” during a hostile occupation by a foreign land. (Judges 6:11, NIV)

friend, are you making profits during these trials? Has your company or income grown? Or perhaps you’ve lost your business or job during the pandemic. I’m so sorry. I believe with you that God will give you strategies to help restore what the locusts have eaten.

I remember a statement Warren Buffet made several years ago in an interview. He said, “I buy shares when others sell, and I sell when others are buying.” I’ll never forget thinking to myself, “How does he do that?” This strategy seems so counterintuitive and yet so profitable.

So why don’t you see the trials you may have as opportunities to plant, grow, profit, and help others? While the world collapses in fear, we are investing in the future. I know you can do it because you are a miracle. And God loves to bless you!
