Where should you NEVER go back to.
Are there places in your life that you should NEVER go back to, friend? Maybe it’s not physical places, but thoughts you should NEVER return to. Maybe it’s an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend. Or perhaps it’s the way you used to treat people before you knew Jesus.
Where should you NEVER go back to, friend?
Let me say this upfront: Going back to where you should NEVER be, will keep you from getting to where you’re MEANT to be.
Going back to where you shouldn’t stay will keep you from walking in God’s way.
When we look at the Bible, we find a story that clearly shows us this truth—and its danger:
Shimei was related to Saul and wasn’t a big fan of David. In one instance, he even threw stones at him and cursed him terribly (see 2 Samuel 16:5-8 NLT)! Later, this same man begged David for forgiveness and admitted his mistake (see 2 Samuel 19:20 NLT).
When David passed away and Solomon became king, he told Shimei: “...Build yourself a house here in Jerusalem. But don’t step outside the city to go anywhere else. On the day you so much as cross the Kidron Valley, you will surely die; and your blood will be on your own head.” (1 Kings 2:36-37 NLT)
friend, as you might expect, the inevitable happened. One day, two of Shimei’s slaves ran away, and what did he do? “He saddled his donkey and went to Gath…” (1 Kings 2:40 NLT). He went on a path that was not good for him. A path he was specifically forbidden to take. friend, for this decision, he ultimately paid with his life (see 1 Kings 2:46 NLT).
friend, maybe he didn’t even think about it. Or maybe he had been waiting for a situation like this, just to have an “excuse” to go where he was NEVER supposed to go.
So, I’ll ask again: Where should you NEVER go back to? Maybe it’s a physical place, maybe it’s a mental space. Make the decision today that, even with an excuse, you won’t go back there—no matter what.
If you’re safe HERE—why would you even want to go back THERE?
You are a miracle!
