Who’s leading you?
Do you like old science fiction movies as much as I do? There is one line in this genre that’s repeated over and over again: “Take me to your leader.” It’s a classic line with tremendous applications today—everyone has a leader.
Bob Dylan wrote an incredible song entitled “Gotta Serve Somebody” about this tendency to follow. In it, he declares, “Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”
Paul the Apostle faced the same reality with one of his churches. He confronted the people with these words: “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?” (Galatians 5:7, NIV)
friend, whom do you follow on Facebook or in music, sports, or politics? Don’t be deceived—we all follow someone—and that person, publication, or party will influence our thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
When I was a teenager, I listened to a kaleidoscope of music. My taste varied based on my mood, the city, and my activities. In retrospect, I realize that music affected my mood, thoughts, and activities. Yikes! Violent music fueled my hockey career, romantic music set the tone for my love life, and melancholy music fed my depression.
What music did you listen to in your teen years? What music, preachers, teachers, or leaders do you listen to now? You can choose to follow a person, or you can learn to follow the Spirit. The Bible teaches us, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14, NKJV) Isn’t this an incredible opportunity? Being led by the Holy Spirit will surely improve our lives, relationships, decisions, and finances.
friend, these are crazy times in the world, but you don’t have to go crazy. You can be led by the Holy Spirit because you are a miracle.
