friend, you are enough!
“Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief.” (the Bible, Proverbs 14:13, NKJV)
Have you ever heard of Chonda Pierce, the #1 best-selling female comedian in history? For this woman of faith, Proverbs 14:13 was her reality for many years. Processing grief over her alcoholic husband’s death, rejection from her daughter’s estrangement, pressure to perform as her career exploded, the tragic loss of both her sisters in her teenage years, deep childhood wounds, and more, she put on a happy face, even as her heart continually cried out beneath the surface...“Am I enough?”
In her excellent, very real movie, “Chonda Pierce: Enough,” this is one of many far-reaching questions that she discusses. Am I enough when the facade of laughter fades to my reality of...grief? Am I enough when my loved ones didn’t change for me? Am I enough when I’m no longer “on stage” or the life of the party, and I go home to a silent house? Am I enough for someone to love me again?
Today, perhaps you relate to some of her struggles...or perhaps yours take a different form. Maybe you wonder if you’re smart, talented, attractive, spiritual, athletic, efficient, loveable, strong, or something else…enough. If you don’t feel “enough” in some way today, friend, I’d like to encourage you to take solace in the Word of God, as Chonda says. Hold tightly to these eternal, unchanging promises, personalized for you:
- “For His divine power has bestowed on friend [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called friend by His own glory and excellence.” (according to 2 Peter 1:3, AMP)
- “And friend, you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (according to Colossians 2:10, NKJV)
- “For God is working in you, friend, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” (according to Philippians 2:13, NLT)
